"The Music Man"

Aubi & Carlie were in the Music Man with their cousin Heather. They've been rehearsing all summer. It was so fun to see their show this weekend. Aubi has been in one play at school, but this is their first experience with community theater. I asked each of them what they liked about being in the musical.
Aubi (10) I like being someone else, and trying on different personalities
Carlie (8): I like being in the middle of lots of action

I don't personally love the story line, especially where the charming, deceitful swindler gets the principled and intelligent girl. But I love the music and it's been so great to have that in our home. I think every one of my kids can sing all the songs and quote most of the funny lines. I heard Becca belting out "Gerry Indiana" last night as she was going to bed, and I had to laugh.

It's wonderful to see how the arts add such an enriching dimension to our children. It was great to see how my girls grew in confidence through this experience. In a culture where efficiency and productivity is a premium its nice to take time and experience that which feeds our soul.
